Attorneys for President Donald Trump and CBS informed a federal judge Monday that they are engaged in “advanced” settlement discussions to resolve Trump’s $20 billion lawsuit against the network over a 60 Minutes interview with Kamala Harris.
Variety reports the parties jointly requested a stay of all case proceedings until Thursday, July 3, 2025, signaling that a resolution may be imminent.
According to the motion, “The Parties respectfully submit that good cause exists to stay all proceedings, as they are actively pursuing good-faith, advanced settlement negotiations.”
This follows earlier reports of “active” talks, indicating progress toward a potential agreement.
The lawsuit, filed by Trump and Rep. Ronny Jackson (R-Texas) under Texas’ Deceptive Trade Practices Act, alleges that CBS deceptively edited a 60 Minutes interview with Harris during the 2024 presidential campaign to portray her more favorably.
The complaint also claims CBS’s actions unfairly competed with Trump’s social media platform, Truth Social, by broadcasting an edited version of the interview. Trump’s legal team has demanded $20 billion in damages, while CBS has countered with an offer of up to $15 million, despite its attorneys describing the lawsuit as a “meritless assault on the First Amendment.”
Recent reports from The Wall Street Journal indicate that a mediator proposed a $20 million settlement, with $17 million allocated to Trump’s presidential foundation and additional funds covering legal fees. Trump has also insisted on a public apology from CBS as part of any deal. While no final agreement has been confirmed as of Monday, the ongoing mediation and requested stay suggest a settlement could be finalized soon.
