NYC Radio: ESPN Takes Over 880 AM Starting Monday

Starting Monday August 26 at 12:01, New York radio station WCBS 880 will undergo a significant change. Audacy, the parent company of WFAN, and Good Karma Brands, the owner of ESPN New York, recently reached an agreement. Under this deal, Audacy will license its 880 AM signal to ESPN New York, effectively ending WCBS-AM 880’s nearly six-decade run of all-news programming1.

Here are the key points:

Format Shift: WCBS-AM 880, an iconic New York brand known for all-news coverage since 1967, will transition away from its current format. Instead, ESPN New York will take over the 880 AM frequency.

ESPN New York Lineup: ESPN New York’s popular shows, including “The Michael Kay Show,” “DiPietro & Rothenberg,” and “Bart & Hahn,” will move to the 880 AM signal. This change aims to give ESPN New York a stronger broadcast presence.

Call Letters Change: Pending FCC approval, the station’s call letters will shift from WCBS to WHSQ-AM.

Mets Radio: Mets radio broadcasts, owned by Audacy, will continue to air on 880 AM, with Audacy retaining all rights to the games.
