Program Director Mark Razz, Andie Summers, VP/Market Manager Joe Bell |
Andie Summers, the longtime morning show host at country station 92.5 XTU (WXTU-FM) has signed a multiyear extension with parent company Beasley Media Group.
Terms of the contract were not disclosed, according to The Philly Business-Journal.
The Andie Summers Show has served as the morning drive program for 92.5 XTU since 1999. The station was ranked No. 3 in overall Philadelphia radio ratings in June behind Beasley’s classic rock station 102.9 WMGK-FM and iHeartMedia’s urban adult contemporary station 105.3 WDAS-FM. XTU is the only country station in the immediate Philadelphia area, with the closest format competitor being Townsquare Media’s 107.3 WPUR-FM in Atlantic City.
The 1996 graduate of Bloomsburg University began her career as a morning show host at Froggy 101 in the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton market before moving to Philadelphia and XTU. She has served as host of the morning show as well various music specials and sports programming, including host of Eagles Primetime Live — a weekly show that aired between 1999 and 2015 with various Eagles players. She also hosted a national country music countdown for Westwood One between 2001 and 2011.
Locking up Summers comes as Beasley has been dealing with layoffs amid an industry-wide reduction in advertising revenue. The latest round included 97.5 The Fanatic afternoon drive co-host Hunter Brody earlier this month.
Despite the tough times, Beasley has re-signed big names such as top-rated morning show hosts Preston & Steve of WMMR in May 2022 and more recently longtime WMGK midday host Andre Gardner in April. Legendary WMGK morning show host John DeBella retired in June.
XTU has been operating under a country format since 1983. In 2014, Beasley traded the station and four others to CBS Radio in exchange for 14 CBS stations located in Tampa and Charlotte, with one station in Philadelphia, 610 WTEL-AM, going to Beasley. Four years later, Beasley bought the station back from Entercom (now Audacy), which had acquired CBS Radio in 2017, for $38 million in cash, as it looked to clear room to buy what is now B101 (WBEB-FM), from Jerry Lee Radio for $57.5 million.
Naples, Florida-based Beasley owns 61 radio stations across the U.S.
