L-A Radio: KNX, KFI Win Golden Mike Awards For Newscasts


KTTV won awards for the best 30-minute and best 60-minute television newscast, while Spectrum News 1 took the award for best daytime television newscast at the 72nd Annual Golden Mike Awards, it was announced Sunday.

On the radio side, KNX won best radio newscast over 15 minutes, and KFI won best radio newscast under 15 minutes.

The awards were presented Saturday night at the Hilton in Universal City by the Radio and Television News Association of Southern California.

In the small market category, KUAN San Diego won for best 60-minute newscast, and KESQ Palm Springs won for best 30-minute newscast. KCLU Thousand Oaks/Santa Barbara won for best radio newscast under 15 minutes.

KABC weatherman Dallas Raines and KCBS/KCAL sportscaster Jim Hill were honored with lifetime achievement awards, as the RTNA returned to a live show after the coronavirus pandemic led to a virtual program in 2021.

The RTNA also presented its 2022 Broadcast Legend Award to Dodgers broadcaster Jaime Jarrín. Jarrín is in his 64th and final season as the Spanish- language voice of the Dodgers, and is the longest tenured active announcer in Major League Baseball.
