The Detroit Lions have found some truly astonishing ways to lose over the years, and Sunday’s Week 3 matchup with the Baltimore Ravens was no exception, according to USAToday.
They managed to lose in a way that no other team had lost before … to a 66-yard field goal.
With three seconds to go in the game and Detroit up a point, the Ravens had no choice but to send star kicker Justin Tucker out to attempt a kick from a record 66 yards. And every Lions fan knew exactly how that was going to end.
Tucker’s kick sent the Ford Field crowd on a cruel, emotional roller coaster as the ball bounced off the crossbar, hung in the air and went through. It was a ridiculous kick — a literal historic kick.
You can hear that soul-crushing disbelief in the call from play-by-play announcer Dan Miller on the Lions’ radio broadcast.
