L-A Radio: Doug McIntyre To EXIT KABC
Doug McIntyre has announced he will be leaving KABC 790 AM on December 14th after 22-years. “There comes a time when you need to get off the stage”, said McIntyre.
“It has been a great honor and privilege to have this platform for all these years, but the time is right to pass the baton.” McIntyre in the Morning is heard weekdays from 5-10 am.
McIntyre made a point to thank KABC management for accepting his decision and expressed his gratitude to his news anchor, Leeann Tweeden, sports reporter, Randy Wang, and traffic reporter, Bill Thomas, “All great professionals and first-class people, even Wang”, said McIntyre.
In addition to hosting McIntyre in the Morning, Doug created Red Eye Radio which dominated the overnight ratings, featuring an eclectic mix of current events, history, and music, with weekly live in-studio performances by famous and not so famous jazz artists and vocalists. Red Eye Radio continues as a nationally syndicated show on over 200 stations. In addition to his work for KABC, McIntyre did double duty, hosting two different shows for WABC in New York City, a total of 6-hours of broadcasting a day.
“After thousands and thousands of hours of gasbagging, it’s time to shut up for a while, restock the story bunker, and tackle some long-delayed writing projects”, said McIntyre.
McIntyre has been selected one of the Top 50 radio hosts in America by the industry magazine, Talkers and was regularly voted a Top 10 host by LARadio.com.
When asked what he will miss most McIntyre did not hesitate to answer. “The listeners! Some of them have been with me from my very first broadcast.” And what won’t he miss? “The ugly, angry, contextless trolling that passes for political discourse today.”
McIntyre will continue to write his popular Sunday column for the Southern California News Group which appears in the L.A. Daily News, Orange County Register, Long Beach Press Telegram, San Bernardino Sun among others.
