21st Century Fox is negotiating the exit of Fox News chief Roger Ailes following a sexual-harassment lawsuit filed by a former network anchor, a person familiar with the matter told The Wall Street Journal.
Mr. Ailes is fighting a lawsuit by former anchor Gretchen Carlson, who claims her contract with the network wasn't renewed as retaliation for her complaints about a hostile work atmosphere at Fox News and improper advances by Mr. Ailes. Mr. Ailes has denied the charges, saying she was let go because of performance issues.
Ailes would be leaving Fox News with a reported $40 million golden parachute, according to a copy of a separation agreement published by Matt Drudge, and subsequently confirmed by Fox News to The Daily Beast.
According to the separation agreement, which has since been deleted, Ailes will continue serving as a consultant and receive the base of his salary, $6.25 million through the end of his contract on June 30, 2017 as well as annual bonuses which together are worth $30 million, which will be paid by August 13, 2016. His last day will be on July 22.
