'Morning Joe' Rips AOC, Darling Of The Left

MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” panel on Friday was unanimous in slamming Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez for her role in pressuring Amazon to scrap plans for its second headquarters in New York City.

According to The Washington Times, co-host Joe Scarborough said the plan was killed by “people who don’t even understand basic economics,” and that left-wing politicians such as Ms. Ocasio-Cortez “ignored” the majority of black and Latino New Yorkers “who needed these jobs, who wanted these jobs.”

“The people who wanted the jobs the least are white elites in Manhattan, according to all of the polls,” Mr. Scarborough fumed, adding later that Ms. Ocasio-Cortez demonstrates a “basic ignorance of Economics 101.”

“We are in a dangerous place,” panelist Donny Deutsch agreed. “If people in the party don’t start to speak up against people like Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, who is young and dynamic but does not know what she’s talking about, they’re going to hand the presidency back to Donald Trump.”

Amazon announced Thursday that it would no longer be building a second headquarters in Long Island City, a plan that promised at least 25,000 new jobs. The company cited pressure by Ms. Ocasio-Cortez and state and local officials in explaining its decision, saying it didn’t care to work in an environment where it wasn’t welcomed.

Ms. Ocasio-Cortez, who holds a degree in economics, celebrated the news as a victory for working-class Americans against the “richest man in the world,” Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos, and claimed that the billions of dollars in promised tax incentives could be used in more productive ways.

“Morning Joe” panelist Susan Del Percio said Ms. Ocasio-Cortez’s statements demonstrate “how little she understands, about not just economics, but even unemployment.”

“She’s just wrong,” Ms. Del Percio said. “It’s not like you have this pile of money that is going to Amazon. This is a tax incentive. You cannot fund schools with money that does not exist — that’s part of the budget process.

“This is a stunt for herself,” she added. “She went there because it’s part of her schtick, and that’s all she has. There’s no substance behind it.”

Co-anchor Willie Geist said the Amazon pullout not only voided the 25,000 jobs that were promised but the thousands of “ancillary jobs that flow out of that.”
