Joe Rogan and Spotify have agreed to a new multi-year deal that keeps “The Joe Rogan Experience” on the platform, extending a partnership that began in 2020.
The renewal is for similar terms to Rogan’s previous deal with the streaming service, which allowed “The Joe Rogan Experience” to be distributed broadly and for an estimated earnout of $250 million, according to The Wall Street Journal citing to people familiar with the matter.
The show was reaching about 28.4 million Americans per week in the second quarter of this year, according to Edison, up from 6.6 million at the beginning of 2020.
“The partnership with Spotify has been an amazing fit, and they’re incredible to work with,” Rogan said in a statement. “I’m extremely happy and excited to continue with them for years to come.”
Jordan Newman, Spotify’s head of content partnerships, said Rogan has built “something incredibly enduring” and that the show continues to draw a large global audience because “there’s simply nothing else like it.” He added that Spotify’s podcast business has grown alongside “JRE” and that the company wants to build on the relationship for years to come.
Spotify reported 300 million premium subscribers and 777 million monthly active users at the end of its second quarter. In recent months it has pushed to expand its creator ecosystem, and retaining Rogan—widely viewed as the most valuable podcaster on its roster—was central to that longer-term strategy. The new agreement keeps one of podcasting’s largest audiences inside Spotify’s exclusive-and-nonexclusive mix rather than letting the show move fully elsewhere.
