Starting Saturday May 23, ABC will provide news updates on WDEL (101.7FM / 1150AM) at the start of every hour, replacing CBS News, which is shuttering its radio news division after nearly 100 years.
WDEL will air a retrospective looking back at the long history of CBS Radio News on Friday at 9 a.m. and again as the network signs off at 11 p.m.
"We were extremely disappointed with CBS' decision," said WDEL's Director of News, Programming and Operations Chris Carl. “But we are thrilled to join ABC, which has a well established record of broadcast journalism excellence.
"Our main goal is to keep WDEL listeners informed on what's happening in their community and around the world, and ABC is in a strong position to help us to continue to deliver that coverage."
Recognized by the RTDNA for Overall Excellence in Network Radio, ABC News Radio is the country’s largest commercial broadcaster with a network of more than 1,400 radio stations and digital distributors. The transition to ABC News Radio has also resulted in several changes to WDEL's weekend programming lineup.
ABC's "This Week with George Stephanopoulos" will air on WDEL on Sundays at noon.
ABC News’ "Start Here Weekend,” will air on Sundays at 10 a.m. Hosted by Brad Mielke, the program dives deeper into the stories driving headlines through in-depth conversations with ABC News correspondents, experts and newsmakers.
WDEL is also excited to start broadcasting "Sinatra Showcase" on Sunday evenings at 6 p.m. Hosted Joe Piscopo, a longtime Sinatra fan known for his tribute to “Ole' Blue Eyes,” the program is devoted exclusively to the greatest hits from the Chairman of the Board.
“These shows are a great addition to the WDEL weekend lineup and complement the news and information programming our listeners count on,” Carl said.
