TV Ratings: More Viewers Watched Fox News for China Coverage


FOX News Channel (FNC) concluded the week of May 11th with over 2.6 million weekday primetime viewers and 243,000 in the 25-54 demo – notably, nabbing 99 out of the Top 100 cable news telecasts among total viewers. 

FNC’s live programming from Beijing, China led cable news coverage of the Trump-Xi Summit, with America’s Newsroom (9-11 AM/ET), Special Report with Bret Baier (6-7 PM/ET), and Hannity (9-10 PM/ET) dominating their time slots. From Tuesday, May 12th to Thursday, May 14th, America’s Newsroom averaged 1.9 million viewers, more than tripling CNN (591,000 viewers) and nearly tripling MS NOW (666,000 viewers). 

From Wednesday, May 13th through Thursday, May 14th, Special Report with Bret Baier and Hannity both averaged 2.8 million viewers. Special Report with Bret Baier nearly quintupled CNN (562,000 viewers) and nearly tripled MS NOW (1,010,000 viewers) while Hannity more than quadrupled CNN (696,000 viewers) and more than doubled MS NOW (1,124,000 viewers).

For the fourth consecutive week, FNC maintained its dominance over ESPN (2.1 million viewers) during the NBA and NHL playoffs. In Monday – Sunday primetime, FNC delivered almost 2.3 million viewers and in Monday – Sunday total day, FNC notched nearly 1.5 million viewers. Notably, CBS Evening News (3.8 million viewers and 503,000 in the 25-54 demo) continued its downward trajectory, posting its sixth consecutive week below 4 million viewers and its 15th consecutive week under 600,000 in the 25-54 demo.

 

The Five led the week averaging 3.4 million viewers and 317,000 in the 25-54 demo. At 6 PM/ET, Special Report with Bret Baier nabbed more than 2.6 million viewers and 221,000 in the 25-54 demo. During the 7 PM/ET hour, The Ingraham Angle notched over 2.1 million viewers and 174,000 in the 25-54 demo. At 8 PM/ET, Jesse Watters Primetime secured over 2.9 million viewers and 241,000 in the 25-54 demo. In the 9 PM/ET hour, Hannity garnered almost 2.8 million viewers and 267,000 in the 25-54 demo. At 11PM/ET, FOX News @ Night with Trace Gallagher captured nearly 1.5 million viewers and 180,000 in the 25-54 demo.


FNC’s late-night hit Gutfeld! (weeknights, 10 PM/ET) averaged almost 2.6 million primetime viewers and 261,000 in the 25-54 demo, maintaining dominance over cable and broadcast competition in total viewers, including NBC’s The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon (1.2 million viewers) and NBC’s The Late Show with Seth Meyers (888,000 viewers and 218,000 in the 25-54 demo).

FNC’s daytime programs continued to command the broadcast competition. America’s Newsroom (weekdays, 9AM-11AM/ET; 1.8 million viewers), The Faulkner Focus (weekdays, 11AM-12PM/ET; 1.8 million viewers), Outnumbered (weekdays, 12 PM/ET; 1.8 million viewers), America Reports (weekdays, 1PM-3PM/ET; 1,741,000 viewers), The Story with Martha MacCallum (weekdays, 3-4PM/ET; 1.8 million viewers) and The Will Cain Show (weekdays, 4-5PM/ET; 2.1 million viewers) all outpaced CBS Mornings (1,736,000 viewers), NBC’s Today Jenna & Sheinelle (1.4 million viewers) and ABC’s GMA3 (1.3 million viewers).

On Saturday:  Kayleigh McEnany's Saturday In America (Saturdays, 10AM-12PM/ET) delivered over 1.5 million viewers, leading the Saturday cable news competition. FOX News Live anchored by Aishah Hasnie (Saturdays, 12-2PM/ET) brought in over 1.2 million and The Big Weekend Show (weekends, 5-8PM/ET) co-hosted by Tomi Lahren and Johnny Joey Jones secured nearly 1.3 million viewers. In primetime, Life, Liberty, & Levin (weekends, 8-9PM/ET), My View with Lara Trump (Saturdays, 9PM/ET), and FOX News Saturday Night (Saturdays, 10PM-11PM/ET) hosted by Jimmy Failla all saw 1.3 million viewers.

On Sunday:  Sunday Morning Futures (Sundays, 10 AM/ET) anchored by Maria Bartiromo led the day with over 1.6 million viewers making it the number one cable news program for the weekend. The Sunday Briefing (Sundays, 11 AM/ET), anchored this week by Peter Doocy, nabbed almost 1.3 million viewers. FOX News Live (Sundays, 12-2PM/ET) anchored by senior national correspondent Rich Edson posted over 1 million viewers while The Big Weekend Show (weekends, 5-8PM/ET) delivered more than 1.4 million viewers. In primetime, Sunday Night in America with Trey Gowdy (Sunday, 9 PM/ET) saw nearly 1.5 million viewers and Life, Liberty, & Levin (weekends, 8-9PM/ET) garnered almost 1.4 million viewers. One Nation with Brian Kilmeade (Sundays, 10PM/ET) dominated the night, posting nearly 1.5 million viewers.
