R.I.P.: Legendary Tulsa Radio Icon Billy Parker Dies at 88

Billy Parker, the beloved voice of country music on KVOO for more than four decades and one of Oklahoma’s most honored broadcasters, has passed away at the age of 88, Big Country 99.5 reported today.

Parker’s warm, familiar presence was a constant on Tulsa airwaves from 1971 until his retirement, spanning an extraordinary 44-year run at KVOO. During that time, he became far more than a disc jockey—he became a trusted friend and daily companion to generations of Oklahoma listeners.


His remarkable career was celebrated with some of the highest honors in broadcasting and music:
  • Induction into the Country Music Disc Jockey Hall of Fame
  • Induction into the Western Swing Hall of Fame
  • Induction into the Oklahoma Music Hall of Fame
  • Recipient of the Oklahoma Association of Broadcasters Lifetime Achievement Award
