Conservative Influencer Robbed of Pricey Camera

Nick Sorter

A conservative influencer and independent journalist Nick Sortor was allegedly robbed of his $1,000 camera during a confrontation in Minneapolis' Cedar-Riverside neighborhood on Sunday, while covering anti-ICE protests. Sortor chased the suspected thief—a woman he described as part of a group that had been following him and his crew all day—and was dragged down the street when his hand became caught in the door handle of the fleeing car, which swerved onto the sidewalk, according to video footage he posted on X.

In one widely shared clip, the suspect is heard yelling profanities before snatching the camera directly from Sortor's hand as he was in his vehicle. Sortor lunged out to pursue her on foot, leading to the brief dragging incident as the car accelerated away. He claimed no bystanders intervened during the chaotic encounter.Sortor, who was accompanied by another content creator, described the area as lawless and called for federal intervention, including a potential DHS raid. He later stated that Minneapolis police were unresponsive or dismissive when he reported the felony theft, allegedly telling him and his colleague to "stay out of this area."

However, the FBI has reportedly acknowledged the incident and indicated they are "on it," with Sortor thanking FBI leadership for stepping in where local authorities did not.

The incident unfolded amid heightened tensions at anti-ICE demonstrations in Minneapolis, where Sortor also reported earlier moments of his vehicle being surrounded, windows smashed, and protesters blocking his path—claims supported by separate videos showing vandalism and aggressive crowding of his car.

Sortor emphasized the need for arrests and charges, sharing multiple angles of the theft and aftermath on X to demand accountability. No arrests have been publicly confirmed as of early January 19, 2026, though he urged viewers to spread the footage widely to aid identification of the suspect.
