Piers Morgan ridiculed Stephen Colbert over the cancellation of The Late Show, questioning why the comedian needed 200 staff members to deliver repetitive anti-Trump jokes.
Speaking on Fox News on Tuesday, Morgan called the show dull and unoriginal, attributing its cancellation to poor ratings and high costs.
“Colbert’s ratings were plummeting, costing $40 million a year with 200 staff just to churn out Trump jabs every night,” Morgan said. He criticized other late-night hosts like Jimmy Kimmel, Seth Meyers, and John Oliver for similar Trump-focused content, labeling it a “one-trick pony” of relentless Trump-bashing.
Morgan, who described himself as a former liberal turned off by “woke excesses,” argued that the 2024 election showed Americans’ support for Trump, rejecting “whiny liberal” narratives.
“Voters said, ‘We like Trump, and we’re tired of this.’ Colbert won’t be the last to go,” he predicted, suggesting audiences crave unfiltered, candid commentary over biased monologues.
The remarks follow a lackluster protest on July 27, 2025, where fewer than two dozen people gathered outside CBS Broadcast Center in New York for a “We’re with Colbert” demonstration against Paramount’s decision to cancel the show.
