DefSec Considering Career Move

Pete Hegseth, the embattled Trump-appointed Defense Secretary, is reportedly exploring a run for Tennessee governor amid mounting scandals and internal strife, according to NBC News

Facing a Pentagon probe, accusations of paranoia, a national security scandal, and dysfunction within the department, Hegseth is also contending with growing calls for his resignation and criticism from a White House aide, despite Trump's team claiming the president remains "extremely pleased" with him, per NOTUS. Sources confirm Hegseth, a former Fox News host and Army National Guard officer, has seriously discussed a 2026 gubernatorial bid in Tennessee, where he owns property, including campaign logistics and eligibility considerations.

Launched in April 2025, the Pentagon’s Office of the Inspector General is investigating whether Hegseth violated rules governing classified information and record retention by using Signal, a commercial messaging app, for official business. The probe examines the security of the app and the nature of the shared information.

Investigators have focused on Hegseth’s close aides, including senior adviser Ricky Buria and personal lawyer Tim Parlatore, questioning their roles in the Signal communications. Specific inquiries include who authored the messages attributed to Hegseth and who was present when they were sent on March 15, 2025.

The investigation has uncovered evidence that the shared military plans were classified, undermining Hegseth’s defense that operational security was maintained. The probe is ongoing, with no public timeline for completion.
