Greenville Radio: WORD To Air Southern Border Coverage

Audacy’s News/Talk 98.9 WORD (WYRD-FM) in Greenville will host a two-day live coverage special at the Mexico-United States border on May 30 and 31 from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. ET in partnership with Americans for Prosperity.

Moderated by 98.9 WORD’S afternoon host Charlie James, the live coverage will take place in Yuma, AZ and will feature discussions around illegal immigration at the border. James will be joined by local and national law enforcement officials, along with local community leaders and migrants in answering questions about recent developments, technology advancements, cross-border traffic control systems, border and citizen security, quality of life in the border region, and economic opportunities.

“Our listeners are concerned with border security,” said Steve Sinicropi, Senior Vice President and Market Manager, Audacy Greenville-Spartanburg. “Charlie will provide first-hand reporting from the border to give them reliable information and updates on the current crisis. We’re grateful for our partnership with Americans for Prosperity to make these two days of special reports available for listeners.”

“On this trip, we’re ripping up the talking points and bringing you actual observations and conversations with those directly affected by the crisis at our southern border,” said James. “I look forward to delivering these real-time moments to the WORD audience.”

Charlie James is a 30-year radio veteran with numerous broadcasting awards to his credit including three South Carolina Broadcasters (SCBA) Star Awards for Radio Show of the Year (2019, 2016, 2007), Best News Talk Show of the Year (2018), and The Academy of Country Music (ACM) Award for Radio Personality of the Year, as well as two Marconi Award nominations. James can also be heard as the host of The Charlie James Show podcast, as well as a voice-over artist on many commercials, corporate presentations, and audiobooks.
