R.I.P.: Bob James, Retired Pittsburgh Radio Newsman

Bob James
Bob James, a longtime Pittsburgh broadcast newsman, died Wednesday in California.

He was 98, reports The Post-Gazette.

Pj Maloney, a friend and former news colleague of Mr. James, said Mr. James had moved to San Francisco to be closer to his daughter after a fall in his Bethel Park home.

After serving in the Navy in World War II, Mr. James had worked in broadcast journalism, mostly in Pittsburgh, since the 1940s.

His résumé included stints at WJAS, WWSW, WIIC-TV and KQV Newsradio, where he put in nearly 20 years of airtime.

James eventually moved on to WFBG in Altoona before returning to Pittsburgh and Channel 11 (then-WIIC). His most recent work was at KQV (1410) where he is remembered for his professional and award-winning coverage whether serious or light-hearted. He retired from the all-news KQV 20 years ago.
