NYC Radio: Michael Kay Ready to Resume Broadcasting

Michael Kay
WEPN ESPN 98.7 FM host and the TV voice of the Yankees, Michael Kay, has been declared healthy, The NY Post has reported.

Kay, 58, has been silenced for more than a month after having a nodule removed from his vocal cord. Kay had hoped to return a little more than a week ago, but his specialist, Dr. Steven Zeitels, said Kay may need more time, turning his stint, as Kay might say, from a month to “an unmanageable” five-week layoff.

Kay started his medical leave in early July.

Kay will return as the host of “The Michael Kay Show” that airs on 98.7 ESPN New York and YES on Aug. 26, the station’s GM Tim McCarthy said.

McCarthy, as well as Kay’s YES boss, John Filippelli, have emphasized that they want Kay to take it slow so as not to aggravate the issue.

In Kay’s place, Ryan Ruocco handled the bulk of the play-by-play, increasing his stock as a baseball caller. Third-stringer Bob Costas pinch-hit on a Red Sox doubleheader.
