R.I.P.: Lisa Mason, WBPT Birmingham Radio Personality

Lisa Mason, longtime morning radio host on WBPT 106.9 FM The Eagle, died on Tuesday night, according to al.com, citing a the station announcement.

“She’ll be greatly missed,” said John Olsen, program director for 106.9.
“She was really dedicated to the people that listened to her. She was a hard worker, who was really dedicated to doing her best every day when she walked in and got behind the microphone.”

Adam Johnsey, her fiancé, said they got engaged May 4 and were planning a wedding next May.

“She was just waiting to get well so she could start planning the wedding,” he said. He said she died of complications with her digestive system.

“She was the kindest, most generous soul I’ve ever known, and the absolute life of the party,” Johnsey said.

Richard Dixon, who co-hosted “The Mason and Dixon Morning Show” with her in 1997-98 on Rock 99 and also worked with her on other shows, said he kept in frequent contact with her through most of her career.

“We weren’t just co-workers, she was my absolute best friend in the world,” Dixon said.

Mason had worked for Summit Media Corporation since 2003 and was known for hosting community events such as Do Dah Day, Toys for Tots, tornado relief drives, the Boo Halloween party and other events.

“She started her career at WYDE AM country station,” Dixon said. “She got a job doing overnights on WYSF and then did traffic at WZZK.”

She took on the radio name of Lisa Mason to become the third female co-host of “Mason and Dixon Morning Show.”
