Manuel “Paco” Navarro, a former disc jockey for the New York radio station Disco 92 WKTU FM, revealed that he is battling numerous health issues, including dementia, Alzheimer’s and stage-4 pancreatic cancer.
Navarro was one of the most recognized disco DJs in New York in the 1970s and early 1980s, hosting the midday show on “Disco 92” WKTU-FM until the twilight of the disco era.
Jim Harlan, a former colleague at WKTU told the Associated Press that Navarro left the station in 1984 or 1985 after the station changed formats and became program director at Spanish language station WJIT
″He really didn’t quite fit in″ under the new format, Harlan told the AP. After ratings dropped at WJIT, Navarro left in January 1986 and couldn’t find a job in radio, he said..
A GoFundMe account has been established in Navarro’s name to help him defray the costs of his treatment.
