Dan McNeil is returning to weekdays on WSCR 670 AM, teamed afternoons with Danny Parkins, as part of a shake-up that will have Dan Bernstein moving to middays, according to The Chicago Tribune.
The moves may leave Matt Spiegel, who was McNeil’s broadcast partner when McNeil left the station in 2014 after failing to agree on a new contract, an odd man out out after 15 months with Parkins on the 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. weekday shift. Spiegel was on the air Monday but absent Tuesday.
Also apparently on the outside looking in is Jason Goff, who had been doing 1-6 p.m. duty with Bernstein.
It’s still not clear who will replace Goff alongside Bernstein, who has been with WSCR-AM since 1995. There are people associated with the station who could fill the post, but outsiders considered include Connor McKnight.
A former WSCR-AM staffer who landed a job in 2009 through the station’s “Score Search” talent contest, McKnight was the White Sox pregame and postgame host on WLS 890 AM. Those games, however, moved to WGN 720 AM last month after WLS-AM broke its multiyear contract with the ballclub as part of station parent Cumulus Media bankruptcy proceedings.
Goff on Tuesday, after media blogger Robert Feder posted news of WSCR-AM changes, indicated on Twitter he learned his fate Friday and the “last couple of days have been pretty rough,” but he thanked his family and friends for their support.
McNeil, a Chicago radio veteran of more than 30 years, has been doing a Sunday show for WSCR-AM since January. McNeil has weathered storms, from clashing with management to battling his own demons, which he has told listeners included addiction to prescription medication and depression.
