Matthew Potter and Richard Bachschmidt |
According to The Post&Courier, Potter did not know about his termination until he arrived for his typical daily radio show, "Afternoon Drive." According to Potter, he was met in the parking lot by new station management, who were brought in two days prior, and his keys were collected in the parking lot. Potter was not allowed inside the building to gather his personal belongings. He received two weeks' pay severance.
"I was let go today. They won't let me in the building to get the pictures of my kids," Potter posted on Facebook.
The firing comes a week after former 105.5 The Bridge radio DJ and host of "Box in the Morning," Richard Bachschmidt, announced he was leaving the radio stations. He apparently did not depart amicably.
According to Potter, new management was brought in after Bachschmidt's departure, and he attended a meeting with the new personnel. He said that, after the meeting, he had no reason at the time to fear for his job. It was later, in the parking lot, when he realized the he was not part of the radio station's future plans.
Both stations are owned by the LM Communications Broadcast Media Group, based in Lexington, Ky.
