Eighteen employees of KJLT 102.3 FM are suddenly without a job.
Some of the employees affected told CBS19 they showed up to work August 1, only to be met by Jacksonville, Texas police and escorted off the property. Police told them the owner of Waller Broadcasting, where they were employed, let them go and they needed to leave the campus.
Reportedly, the station is now silent.
"Monday morning started off like a lot of our mornings, we were all driving separate vehicles to the station and Carter beat me there," Brandon Michael, Former Assistant General Manager, Waller Broadcasting said. "We unlocked the doors, we go inside and do our show and none of our keys worked because all of the locks had been changed."
"Realizing I may not have a next paycheck coming in and that I may not be able to pay my mortgage and help provide for my family, that's difficult" Carter of the Breeze radio said.
Michael said he believed the lay-offs were due to family dispute over property. CBS19 has not confirmed that.
Regardless, 18 employees are now left to find new places to work.
