Grant Napear’s weekday afternoon show on Fox Sports Radio Sacramento has been canceled after eight months. The former Sacramento Kings broadcaster announced the cancellation Monday on social media.
The program, which aired from 3 to 6 p.m. on iHeartMedia’s Fox Sports Sacramento, launched in September 2025. It marked Napear’s first return to Sacramento radio since he lost both his TV and radio jobs in June 2020.
Napear had served as the television voice of the Kings since 1988 and dominated Sacramento’s afternoon drive on KHTK until a Twitter exchange with former Kings player DeMarcus Cousins ended his tenure.
Cousins asked for Napear’s thoughts on Black Lives Matter; Napear replied, “ALL LIVES MATTER…EVERY SINGLE ONE!!!” The response triggered widespread backlash. Former Kings players including Chris Webber and Matt Barnes publicly criticized him, NBC Sports California distanced itself, the Kings announced his resignation, and KHTK fired him on air.
Napear stood by his comment and later saw a discrimination and wrongful termination lawsuit against KHTK dismissed.
Before 2020, Napear’s KHTK show led the local market for years, and his 32-year run calling Kings games made him one of the region’s most recognizable sports voices. Upon returning to Fox Sports Sacramento, a newer station competing directly with KHTK, he vowed to reclaim the afternoon slot and reconnect with local fans.
However, secondary sports stations in smaller markets often struggle without major broadcast rights, and Napear’s show did not last long enough to mount a serious challenge.
Since his 2020 departure, Napear has hosted a Sacramento Kings podcast with longtime partner Jerry Reynolds. According to his Monday message, he will continue his content on YouTube and X.
