FOX News anchor and six-time Emmy Award winner, Harris Faulkner was celebrated at Southern University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, on Sunday, February 23, 2025, for her remarkable contributions to journalism and community engagement.
During the special event, she became the inaugural recipient of the Chancellor’s Award for Excellence and Lifetime Achievement, an honor bestowed upon her by Southern University Chancellor John K. Pierre. The award recognizes her trailblazing career, which includes being the only Black woman to host back-to-back programs on cable news with The Faulkner Focus (11 AM ET) and Outnumbered (12 PM ET), both of which she has helmed since joining FOX News Channel in 2005.
The ceremony was part of Southern University’s Day of Honor, a day filled with meaningful activities, including musical performances by the university’s renowned Human Jukebox marching band and opportunities for Faulkner to connect with students. She engaged with ROTC cadets, student journalists, and mass communication majors, sharing insights from her journey—from her early days as a mass communication student to becoming a leading voice in broadcast news. Her discussions with the ROTC students were particularly poignant, reflecting her personal ties to military service through her involvement with organizations like the Green Beret Foundation and the Navy SEAL Foundation, as well as her FOX Nation special, Footsteps of My Father, which chronicled her father’s service in the Vietnam War.Adding to the significance of the occasion, Louisiana State Senator Regina Barrow declared February 23 as “Harris Faulkner Day” during the event, a proclamation that underscores Faulkner’s impact not only in journalism but also as an inspiring figure for the state. This recognition came as Faulkner prepared to broadcast The Faulkner Focus live from the Southern University campus the following day, Monday, February 24, at 10 AM CST (11 AM EST), bringing national attention to the historically Black institution.
