R.I.P.: Jerry Wade, WTLC Indy Longtime Host Of The Quiet Storm

Jerry Wade, an Indianapolis disc jockey whose voice soothed millions of radio listeners over his 40 year career, has died. He was 61, according to The Indy Star.

On Monday, WTLC-FM radio station 106.7 in Indianapolis confirmed Wade's death, saying he "radiated positivity not only over the airwaves," but with every person he met.

From Sunday through Thursday, Wade was known as "The Loverman," hosting "The Quiet Storm with The Loverman Jerry Wade" on-air for more than 40 years, according to WTLC.

“This is a complete shock to the Radio One Family," Karen Vaughn, operation manager for WTLC, said in a prepared statement online. "Jerry was a friend, a confidant, a brother, and the ultimate party starter, and we are working together through our grief to pay tribute to one of the biggest stars our station has ever had the honor to feature.”

Promoter and community activist Amp Harris, himself a former radio DJ, posted to Instagram that he had just recently spoken to Wade about working out and playing basketball. "This one hurts me to the core," Harris wrote. "One of my radio brothers. One of the coolest dudes I ever worked with and always enjoyed talking to."

Wade "loved Indianapolis and wanted to see people smile," read a statement from WTLC. "What most listeners didn't know was Jerry's giving heart."

The station listed Wade as the executive director of "Quality Life," an adult day center on the city's east side, adding Wade made significant contributions to the Indianapolis community and that his impact would be felt for years to come.
