Sunbury PA Radio: Programmer Mark Lawrence Retires From Radio

WKOK Program Director Mark Lawrence has retiring from radio after more than 40 years, according to a posting on the station website.

Mark Lawrence
Lawrence spent 31 of his 41 years in radio at WKOK; First as News Director from 1987-1996 and again as Program Director since 2001, “When I met Roger Haddon Sr., he said, ‘Making money’s just an excuse up here. We’re here to super serve the Valley. And I had never heard the phrase ‘Super Serve,’ so I didn’t know what that meant. But as soon as you came on board, I just did absolutely everything he asked me to do. It just beat working. That’s why I did it. So this has just been a great ride.”

In addition to his tenures at WKOK, he was local news anchor and producer for WTGC 1010 AM in Lewisburg in 1982. He then became afternoon news anchor at WHLM in Bloomsburg after graduating from Penn State. Lawrence also spent time at WKSB-FM, WRAK-AM in Williamsport from 1996-2001.

Lawrence is a Sunbury native, graduated from Shikellamy High School in 1977 and then from Penn State in 1982 with a degree in Broadcast Journalism.

WKOK News Director Matt Catrillo takes over as Program Director and morning news anchor, while On The Mark will continue to be hosted by Joe McGranahan, Monday-Thursday 9am to 10am.
