7/5 WAKE-UP CALL: Who Had Coke At TWH?


The White House was temporarily closed on Sunday evening after Secret Service agents discovered a white powder substance suspected to be cocaine inside a work area in the West Wing. The Secret Service said in a statement the White House was temporarily closed to allow members of law enforcement to investigate the substance and that the District of Columbia fire department assisted in evaluating the substance.

The fire department "quickly determined the item to be non-hazardous" after an initial evaluation, a spokesperson for the Secret Service said. A fire department and emergency medical services field test Sunday evening identified a "yellow bar, meaning cocaine, hydrochloride" after a dispatch at 8:49 p.m., according to a publicly available recording of the encrypted call.

Members of the public who tour the White House usually are only allowed to visit the East Wing and Residence. Tour members are typically not permitted to visit the West Wing, which is where the president, vice president, and other senior administration officials have their offices.

➤RUSSIA BLAMES U-S AND ALLIES FOR DRONE ATTACKS: Russia accused the U.S. and its allies of helping Ukraine launch a drone attack Tuesday aimed at Moscow and its surroundings, temporarily disrupting air traffic at a major international airport. None of the five drones targeting the Russian capital region caused injuries or damage, as four were shot down by air defenses and the other one lost control and crashed, Russia's Foreign Ministry said, according to the state-owned TASS news agency. The ministry claimed such an assault would not have been feasible for Ukraine without Western support. "All this makes Washington and its satellites complicit in preparing and carrying out terror attacks that are being prepared and carried out on Western money and with Western weapons," the ministry said, as quoted by TASS.


➤SHOOTINGS MAR HOLIDAY: At least eight people were killed and several others injured in a pair of mass shootings in Philadelphia and Fort Worth, Texas, a day ahead of the Fourth of July holiday.


Five men were killed in Philadelphia on Monday night after a man wearing a bulletproof vest and carrying an AR-style rifle began firing at random, police there said. Two children were also shot and two other people, including another child, were injured by falling glass amid the shooting in the city’s Kingsessing neighborhood.

In Fort Worth, at least three people were killed in a shooting after a Fourth of July event late Monday in that city’s Como neighborhood, a historically Black community. Police said they arrived at a chaotic scene late Monday, finding multiple shooting victims in a parking lot while people fled the area on foot. One person died at the scene in Texas and two others at local hospitals. Eight other victims were being treated for gunshot wounds. Police said the shooting victims include one juvenile. No arrests have been made in that case.A motive in both shootings remained unclear Tuesday.

In Philly, the rifle-wielding suspect who donned a bulletproof vest before allegedly shooting dead five men and injuring two children in Philadelphia has been identified as a Black Lives Matter supporter who shared gun-toting memes on social media. Kimbrady Carriker, 40, was nabbed shortly after the bloodshed in the city’s Kingsessing neighborhood Monday night, the Philadelphia Inquirer reported, citing sources. Cops haven’t yet publicly disclosed the suspect’s identity.

On his Facebook page, Carriker posted two pictures of him wearing a bra, a women’s top and earrings with his hair braided long in March, three months before the alleged shooting. He also regularly posts about supporting Black Lives Matter, including supporting workers who protested in the Strike For Black Lives in July 2020.

🌭JOEY IS QUITE THE HOT DOG: After a delay of almost two hours for inclement weather, Joey Chestnut continued his dominance at the annual Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest, winning his 16th title in 17 years. Chestnut ate 62 hot dogs and buns during the 10-minute contest in front of cheering spectators during the Fourth of July spectacle on Coney Island in New York. Runner-up Geoffrey Esper ate 49 hot dogs. Miki Sudo won her ninth title while devouring 39½ hot dogs and buns. Mayo Ebihara of Japan finished second with 33½ hot dogs. Sudo said she knew Ebihara was a threat and it distracted her early.


➤A MASSACHUSETTS WOMAN WHO WAS MISSING FOR A WEEK WAS FOUND STUCK IN THE MUD AT A STATE PARK: A woman in Massachusetts who had been missing for a week was found Monday stuck in the mud at a state park, police said. Emma Tetewsky, 31, went missing sometime around noon on June 26 and was known to visit Pinewood Pond in Stoughton and Lake Massapoag in Sharon, Stoughton police said in a news release. On Monday, Tetewsky was found in nearby Borderland State Park, about 30 miles south of Boston, by hikers who said they heard a woman screaming for help in a swamp-like area.

➤ALLIGATOR ATTACKS AND KILLS WOMAN WHO WAS WALKING HER DOG IN SOUTH CAROLINA: A woman who was walking her dog was killed in an alligator attack in South Carolina Tuesday morning, authorities said, marking the second fatal gator attack in the county in less than a year. According to the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office, deputies responded at about 9:30 Tuesday morning to a report of a possible alligator attack near a lagoon bordering a golf course in the Spanish Wells community on Hilton Head Island. A 69-year-old resident of the community was located at the edge of the lagoon and appeared to be unresponsive, officials said.

🍺Y2Y BUD REMAINS NEGATIVE: Ahead of the Fourth of July weekend Bud Light sales remained much lower than in the same period last year. Sales did however see a small rise than its worst year-on-year sales recorded the week of June 17. Sales of Bud Light dropped 27.9 percent on last year in the week ending June 24, which is slightly better than its worst decline on record - 28.5 percent the week before, according to Nielsen IQ data provided by Bump Williams Consulting to The New York Post.
➤BARBIE’ MOVIE IS BANNED IN VIETNAM DUE TO MAP INCLUDING ‘NINE-DASH LINE:’ According to The New York Times, the highly anticipated Barbie movie will not be showing in Vietnam. The movie has been banned by the country due to a scene that features the so-called “nine-dash line" on a map, which depicts the majority of territory in the South China Sea as belonging to China. State newspaper Vietnam Plus writes that featuring the line in the movie “distorts the truth, violates the law in general and violates sovereignty of Vietnamese territory in particular.”

⚾ MLB MIKE TROUT INJURED: Mike Trout suffered a fractured hamate bone in his left hand and was placed on the injured list Tuesday, the Los Angeles Angels announced, an injury that typically requires six to eight weeks of recovery. Trout broke his hamate - or "hook" bone - on a swing Monday night against the San Diego Padres. A hamate fracture occurs fairly often among hitters and there's little long-term structural damage. But the broken bone needs to be removed surgically, a process that will sideline Trout for the remainder of July, and perhaps all of August.

⚾MLB NAMES ALL-STAR SUBS: Major League Baseball on Tuesday announced injury replacements for a trio of big stars who will not be able to play in next week's All-Star Game. Three-time MVP Mike Trout (broken hamate bone) of the Angels and reigning MVP Aaron Judge (toe) of the Yankees are out for the American League side after earning starting nods. The National League will be missing Dodgers pitcher Clayton Kershaw, a starting candidate who will be unable to go at all due to a sore shoulder. In their places step the Astros' Kyle Tucker, the Rays' Wander Franco and the Pirates' David Bednar, respectively. Two other replacements named Tuesday are sure to please the hometown fans who will be on hand for the game in Seattle: the Mariners' own Julio Rodriguez and George Kirby.

⚾PADRES DESIGNATE SLUGGER NELSON CRUZ FOR ASSIGNMENT: The San Diego Padres designated slugger Nelson Cruz for assignment on Tuesday in a series of moves. The designated hitter, who is a seven-time All-Star and in his 19th major league season, is batting .245 with five home runs and 23 RBIs in 49 games.

🌪STORM CHASER FILMS TORNADO AND IT'S WAY TOO CLOSE TO COMFORT: This is the moment a thrill-seeking weather watcher got within yards of a huge tornado that destroyed homes in Canada. According to Metro, a severe thunderstorm produced the tornado that happened on Saturday in Alberta, according to local weather officials. Forecasters warned of large hail and damaging winds as the supercell thunderstorm destroyed buildings, caused injuries and killed animals. Environment and Climate Change Canada, the country’s national weather agency, issued emergency alerts for the storm and said it said was producing a tornado, damaging winds, large hail and intense rainfall. ‘Storm chaser’ Aaron Jayjack posted the terrifying video that shows the huge tornado gathering pace in the background as he is blasted by the high winds.
