Milwaukee Radio: Colleen Valkoun Exits As iHM's Market President


Colleen Valkoun, who is well-known in the Milwaukee radio and advertising industry and helped lure Green Bay Packers broadcasts to iHeartMedia’s Milwaukee sports radio station, is no longer with the company as market president for its Milwaukee stations.

The Milwaukee Business Journal reports Jeff Tyler, who was Valkoun’s boss as area president for iHeartMedia Multiplatform Group in Wisconsin, confirmed the information Wednesday via email. He said her departure was “due to company restructure” and that iHeartMedia stations in Milwaukee and Madison now report directly to him.

Valkoun’s title was market president for iHeartMedia Milwaukee, Tyler said.

“With this change I had the duties of market president for Milwaukee added to my position,” Tyler said via email. Tyler declined further comment.

iHeart’s Milwaukee stations are: WISN-AM (1130), WKKV-FM (100.7), WMIL-FM (106.1), WOKY-AM (920), WRIT-FM (95.7) and WRNW-FM (97.3).

Valkoun was promoted to president of both the Milwaukee and Madison markets for iHeart in March 2015.

At the time, she replaced Tyler, who took the helm at iHeart’s Twin Cities radio group. Tyler now oversees all iHeart stations in Wisconsin and multiplatform products in the state.

Prior to leading the iHeartMedia stations, Valkoun was iHeartMedia vice president of sales in the Milwaukee market. She joined Clear Channel Communications, as iHeart was then known, in 2003, according to her LinkedIn profile.

The Packers announced in October 2021 that after more than 90 years on WTMJ-AM (620) in Milwaukee, the team was switching to iHeartMedia’s sports-talk station WRNW-FM (97.3 “The Game") effective with the current NFL season.

Tyler said in October 2021 that he and Valkoun worked for four years selling the Packers on changing the team's Milwaukee game-broadcast station. The talks started before iHeartMedia had an FM sports station; WRNW-FM flipped to a sports format in November 2018.

Tyler said in October 2021 that while he played a lead role in winning over the Packers, Valkoun had the vision and handled much of the day-to-day work to make the deal happen.

As of Dec. 31, 2021, iHeartMedia owned and operated 863 radio stations in the United States, according to the company’s latest Form 10-K annual report. The company generated $1.81 billion in revenue from its radio stations in 2021, the document said.
