Youngstown Radio: Cumulus Stations To Air 'We Care Radiothon'

Cumulus Media  announces that its radio stations in Youngstown, OH, will present the “We Care Radiothon” from Monday, August 22, 2022, through Friday, August 26, 2022, to raise funds for people suffering through the continued humanitarian crisis in Ukraine. All funds raised will benefit MedWish International, a Cleveland-based nonprofit organization that saves lives and the environment by repurposing discarded medical supplies and equipment to provide humanitarian aid to people in need.

The weeklong Radiothon will air on Cumulus Youngstown’s K 105 Country/WQXK-FM, Hot 101/WHOT-FM and Y 103/WYFM-FM. To donate to Cumulus Youngstown’s “We Care Radiothon”, K 105 listeners should text “We Care” to 1-800-950-1051, Y 103 listeners should text “We Care” to 330.782.9103, and Hot 101 listeners should text “We Care” to 330-781-9468, for a link to donate.

Charley Connolly, Operations Manager, Cumulus Youngstown, said: “With the number of residents in Youngstown and the Mahoning and Shenango Valleys that are from Ukraine and have ties to the region, we felt it our duty to not only raise funds for those affected by the continued humanitarian crisis there, but to keep the topic front and center. These people need our help and we’re proud to do what we can.”

MedWish International began working with recipients in Ukraine in 2014. From 2014-2021, 15 containers of medical aid, in addition to various other shipments were sent to these partners. Due to these long-standing relationships, MedWish was able to respond to the current humanitarian crisis in Ukraine just days after the conflict with Russia began.

Recipients provided lists of critically needed items in real time, and MedWish responded by preparing shipments from its vast inventory. In order to best fulfill all needs, MedWish conducted a two-day supply drive in March, which resulted in the collection of almost 14,000 lbs. of aid. Over 100 volunteers assisted with these efforts and many more volunteered their time sorting and packing supplies in the days and weeks that followed. Within the first three months of the crisis, MedWish prepared and facilitated 33 shipments of aid, totaling over 22,000 lbs. of supplies and equipment.

As of today, MedWish has shipped over 60,000 lbs. of aid to those being impacted in Ukraine and the surrounding area, and also to those who have relocated from Ukraine to the Cleveland area. Locally, MedWish has provided baby wipes, diapers, formula, feminine hygiene supplies, wheelchairs, and more to those who left home with very little and are now finding themselves in need of support in the United States.
