Entercom's Pittsburgh station have raised funds to provide over 650,000 meals for people in need through the “Giant Eagle Feed the Need Radiothon.” The radiothon directly benefits Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank and those dealing with food insecurity in the Pittsburgh region.
“This is a great example of Pittsburghers taking care of each other and using the power of radio to spread the message of the need in our region,” said Michael Spacciapolli, Senior Vice President and Market Manager, Entercom Pittsburgh. “Helping the community is part of the fabric of what we do. Pop country music duo Dan + Shay; singer-songwriter Daya; former NFL player Dan Marino; Allegheny County Executive Rich Fitzgerald; Pittsburgh Mayor Bill Peduto, Pittsburgh Pirates President Travis Williams; “Inside Edition” host Steven Fabian; Pittsburgh Steeler Cam Heyward; former Steelers Vance McDonald and Franco Harris; former WWE wrestler Kurt Angle; rapper FRZY; University of Pittsburgh men’s basketball head coach Jeff Capel III; University of Pittsburgh head football coach, Pat Narduzzi; and University of Pittsburgh basketball color analyst Curtis Aiken all joined the stations to support the fundraiser. Between March 16, 2020 and February 28, 2021, over 46 million meals were delivered across 11 counties of southwestern Pennsylvania through Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank’s network – a 9.2 million meal increase from the year prior.
