Los Angeles radio host and TV host Nick Cannon will be launching two syndicated radio shows in the new year.
Cannon is teaming with Meruelo Media and Skyview Network to launch Nick Cannon Radio and Nick Cannon Weekends. The shows will premiere Jan. 27, 2020, and in February 2020, respectively.
Nick Cannon Radio will be made available to stations during afternoon drive Mondays through Fridays, while Nick Cannon Weekends will air Saturdays and Sundays on urban, rhythmic and hip-hop formats. Cannon currently hosts Nick Cannon Mornings on the Meruelo-owned Los Angeles hip-hop station Power 106.
“I love connecting with Los Angeles every morning on Power 106. The response and support has been amazing and very special; the natural thing is to take it to the next level with a new nationally syndicated daily drivetime and weekend show,” said Cannon in a statement. “The show will feature original comedy and conversations with the people driving pop culture. I am looking forward to working with Skyview Networks and my Meruelo Media family to now reach all of the U.S.”
The series mark the start of a new business relationship between Meruelo and Skyview, the latter of which will handle production, affiliation and advertising sales. In addition to KPWR Power 106, Meruelo -- a subsidiary of The Meruelo Group -- also owns radio stations KDAY 93.5, KLOS 95.5 and KLLI 93.9 in Los Angeleas and KDEY 93.5 in San Bernardino/Riverside.
“Our partnership with Nick Cannon on Power 106 is proof positive that we are committed to invest in the very best and most compelling entertainment in the world,” said Meruelo Media president and CEO Otto Padron. “This content strategy, coupled with our carefully curated portfolio of heritage audio brands and popular personalities in the key market of Los Angeles, gives Meruelo Media very exciting syndication opportunities. Having a like-minded syndication parter like Skyview Networks is the perfect storm!”
Added Skyview Networks president and COO Steve Jones, “Nick Cannon is one of the most accomplished, creative and versatile entertainers in America and we are proud to be working with him and the team at Meruelo Media to launch Nick’s new syndicated shows. Nick is an influencer, whose connection with audiences makes him extremely attractive to advertisers and radio programmers alike.”
Cannon will be busy during 2020. The Masked Singer host is also teaming with Lionsgate's Debmar-Mercury to front his own syndicated daytime TV talk show in 2020. Cannon will co-produce the series via his production company, Ncredible Entertainment. Details on the name of the show and a specific launch date — as well as plans surrounding a format — have not yet been determined.
