Atlanta Radio: WSB Care-a-thon Raises $1.7M

Cox Media Group Atlanta’s News WSB 95.5 FM / 750 AM WSB hosted the 19th annual WSB Care-a-Thon from 5 a.m. on July 25 until 6 p.m. on July 26. The 37-hour radio event raised over $1.7 million for research and programs at the Aflac Cancer & Blood Disorders Center of Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, nearly breaking the record set in 2017.

“We are thankful to WSB Radio and their dedicated listeners for being our partners in raising awareness and desperately needed funding for pediatric cancer and blood disorders research at the Aflac Cancer Center,” says Ron Frieson, president of the Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta Foundation and External Affairs. “In 19 years, we have raised more than $24 million to support the patients and families we serve. We could not do this important work without the support of WSB and its listeners.”

Pete Spriggs, director of branding and programming for WSB Radio, says, “There is an extraordinary local story to tell at the Aflac Cancer Center—one that is filled with emotion and hope. Our entire team considers it the honor of their careers to be able to tell that story, and to meet the kids, parents, families, doctors, nurses and caregivers there. But our listeners deserve all the credit, due to their incredible generosity year after year.”

Scott Slade, Clark Howard, Eric Von Haessler, Mark Arum, Erick Erickson, Neal Boortz and Brian Kilmeade and many other local radio personalities participated in the WSB Care-a-Thon by interviewing patients and their families and encouraging listeners to donate and purchase one-of-a-kind experiences throughout the two-day event. Special guests included Dan Amos (Chairman and CEO of Aflac), Atlanta Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan, Governor Brian Kemp, and other notable Atlanta-based personalities.
