SiriusXM is being sued in a potential Class Action by people who paid for a “lifetime subscription” that turned out to be anything but, it is alleged.
Paul Wright is the plaintiff in the action, filed September 12th in the US District Court for the Central District of California. Wright alleges that SiriusXM “systematically advertised and sold its lifetime subscriptions to consumers by leading consumers to believe that such lifetime subscriptions were for the lifetime of the consumer.
However, when consumers have tried to transfer their lifetime subscriptions from one receiver to another or from one automobile to another, Defendant has taken the position that the ‘lifetime’ referred to is not the lifetime of the purchasing consumer, but the lifetime of the receiver or automobile.”
According to reports, Wright argues that he bought a $400 lifetime subscription back in 2006 but when he tried to transfer the subscription from his older Stiletto-branded radio (which had failed) to a new receiver, the broadcaster refused the transfer.
That's a good example of why one needs to read the fine print. Carefully. SXM is a big media company. They employ lawyers to assure that they don't leave loopholes in deals.
