Tulsa Radio: Dan Potter Exits News/Talk KRMG

Dan Potter, the longtime host of The KRMG Morning News, has abruptly exited Tulsa’s News/Talk 740 KRMG/102.3 KRMG-FM after 17 years at the station and 13 years anchoring mornings.

The sudden departure came last week, when Potter arrived for what he believed was a routine contract renewal meeting with new owner Dr. Robert Zoellner. Instead, he was told his contract would not be renewed, handed a check, and escorted out by security, he told the Tulsa World.

The move ended one of the longest-running morning news tenures in Tulsa radio history just days after his final show.

Zoellner Media Group purchased KRMG and its sister stations from Cox Media Group earlier in 2025, marking the first ownership change in decades for the 75-year-old heritage station.

Potter, 61, had been only the third morning host in the program’s nearly 50-year run, following legends John Erling (1976–2005) and Joe Kelley (2005–2012). Under Potter, The KRMG Morning News consistently ranked among Oklahoma’s highest-rated radio news programs and earned two national Marconi Awards for Medium Market Personality of the Year.

Before Tulsa, Potter spent 18 years at Dallas’ 820 WBAP, where he served as news director and won multiple Texas AP and Press Club awards.

No replacement has been named, and the station has made no public comment on the departure or the future direction of the morning show.
