NPR CEO Woke Tweets Surface

Woke, anti-Trump tweets of NPR’s new CEO, Katherine Maher, have resurfaced, casting a shadow over her leadership. A veteran editor recently leveled bombshell accusations of journalistic bias against the network, and Maher has found herself in the crossfire.

Maher Shows Support
Award-winning NPR business editor Uri Berliner penned a lengthy essay in The Free Press, which Maher deemed “profoundly disrespectful, hurtful, and demeaning” in a letter to staffers. While Maher emphasized diversity and the representation of America within NPR, she did not directly address Berliner’s evidence of the organization’s relentlessly leftist slant.

Interestingly, Maher’s history of partisan social media posts has come under scrutiny. In 2018, she boldly tweeted that “Donald Trump is a racist,” a message that was later removed from the platform but preserved on Archive.Today. During the George Floyd riots in 2020, she attempted to justify looting in Los Angeles as payback for the sins of slavery. Her posts also included a call for “white silence” to be challenged.

Maher, previously the CEO of the Wikimedia Foundation, now faces the challenge of steering NPR toward greater stability as layoffs and market forces unsettle media companies.
