Wake-Up Call: Hamlin Suffered Cardiac Arrest

The Buffalo Bills said safety Damar Hamlin suffered a cardiac arrest after taking a hit during the team’s game against the Cincinnati Bengals. “His heartbeat was restored on the field and he was transferred to the UC Medical Center for further testing and treatment. He is currently sedated and listed in critical condition,” the Bills said early Tuesday on Twitter.
Hamlin collapsed during Monday night’s game against Cincinnati, receiving CPR on the field before he was taken away in an ambulance to a hospital before the game was suspended for the night. The game was paused after Hamlin collapsed, and then temporarily suspended, with the players heading to their locker rooms. Just over an hour after the situation unfolded, the game was officially postponed by the league. 


Across the street, Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin was inside UC Medical Center, in critical condition after collapsing early in his team’s game against the Cincinnati Bengals on Monday night. And in a show of support for Hamlin, an estimated group of 30-40 fans – representing the Bills and Bengals – gathered at AN intersection, hoping for positive news about Hamlin’s condition. At 11:44 p.m., a Bengals fan asked the group to gather for a prayer.

After initially being temporarily suspended for over an hour, the NFL decided to officially suspend the game for the evening and attempt to make it up at a later date. The Bengals were leading 7-3 before the game was called. Although the ESPN broadcast claimed the two teams were given a five-minute warm-up period before attempting to resume the game, the NFL denied they tried to restart action.

➤JEREMY RENNER FACES SURGERIES: Actor Jeremy Renner will have to undergo multiple surgeries for the “extensive” injuries he suffered when his snowplow ran over one of his legs at his Nevada home on Sunday. The injury to the 51-year-old Marvel star will require two surgeries to repair, CNN reported Monday. It’s unclear if both procedures had been completed by Monday evening, but the actor is said to be in stable condition.


Surgery will be the first step in a long road to recovery after Renner lost a significant amount of blood in the New Year’s Day accident near his Mt. Rose-Ski terrace home. The “Hawkeye” star was using his Kässbohrer PistenBully snow plow to clear a path out of his five-bedroom home after the area had been slammed by a massive snowstorm. A safety feature on the heavy-duty machinery apparently failed and the massive plow rolled over his leg. A spokesperson for Renner — who is something of a local hero for his efforts to combat the elements, from snow to fires, in the area — had said he was injured in Nevada “after experiencing a weather-related accident while plowing snow.”

The two-time Oscar-nominated actor was airlifted to a hospital near Reno just before 10 a.m. Sunday after a neighbor applied a tourniquet to his crushed leg to stop the bleeding.

➤ACTORS APPRENTLY HIRED FOR PUTIN PROPAGANDA: The Russian president, 70, was seen in footage released by Moscow delivering his pre-recorded message while standing in front of several men and women dressed in military fatigues. The clip then showed him raising his glass, toasting the new year. However, eagle-eyed viewers have suggested that Putin is seemingly so paranoid about his position being under threat that the Kremlin hired actors to pose as soldiers and medics for the address. Others spotted an unusual bulge under his suit jacket, suggesting he was wearing body armour as an added precaution. One of the alleged actors is a blonde woman (pictured circled in red) seen standing over Putin's right shoulder. Like the others, she is seen in military clothing having been given a medal earlier by the Russian despot, and glances between him and the camera. But this is not the first time she has been seen with the president, commentators have claimed.


➤McCARTHY LEARNS HIS FATE TODAY: House GOP Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) made an eleventh hour push to get the votes needed to lock down the support needed as a group of conservative defectors continue to threaten to derail his ability to get the gavel. In the Speaker’s office in the Capitol — which McCarthy has moved into despite uncertainties over whether he will prevail on the floor — the California Republican met with a group of his supporters followed by a short meeting with three of his defectors — Reps. Scott Perry (R-PA), Matt Gaetz (R-FL) and Lauren Boebert (R-CO), with members trickling in-and-out in hopes of getting the backing of the 218 members needed to secure the position.

➤TELSA BREAKS SALES RECORD: Tesla said Monday that sold a record 1.3 million vehicles last year, but the number fell short of CEO Elon Musk’s pledge to grow the company’s sales by 50% nearly every year. The 2022 figure topped the prior record of 936,000 vehicles delivered in 2021, but it was shy of the 1.4 million needed to reach the company’s 50% growth target. Sales grew 40% year over year, while production climbed 47% to 1.37 million.  The shortfall came despite a major year-end sales push that included rare $7,500 discounts in the U.S. on the Models Y and 3, the company’s top-selling models. Tesla Inc., which is based in Austin, Texas, also had to deal with rising cases of the novel coronavirus in China, which cut into production at its Shanghai factory.


➤MURDER SUSPECT DROVE CROSS-COUNTRY WITH DAD: Bryan Kohberger, 28, drove from Washington to Pennsylvania with his father weeks after he allegedly murdered the four University of Idaho students, his defense attorney revealed. A witness at a Pennsylvania car repair shop claimed the two were spotted on December 16 after making the more than 2,000-mile journey. Kohberger's father had bragged to the witness about flying out to Washington to make the cross-country drive with his son in his white Hyundai Elantra. Police had been on the hunt for the exact car model after it was revealed that one was seen nearby the Idaho murder house at the time of the slayings. Kohberger was arrested at his parents' Pennsylvania home on Friday in connection to the University of Idaho slayings and authorities recovered his car. He is behind bars awaiting extradition over the brutal deaths of Ethan Chapin, 20, Kaylee Goncalves, 21, Xana Kernodle, 20, and Madison Mogen, 21.

Meanwhile, Kohberger allegedly tried to expose himself, sang violent rap songs and threatened guards from a Pennsylvania jail cell, according to a report. A fellow inmate told the Daily Mail that accused killer Bryan Kohberger displayed bizarre and disturbing behavior at the Monroe County, PA Jail.

➤TRANSGENDER WOMAN'S SCHEDULED EXECUTION WOULD BE U.S. FIRST: Missouri may be the first state to ever execute a transgender woman in the United States, unless Missouri Gov. Mike Parson grants clemency. Amber McLaughlin is a transgender woman and is scheduled to be executed by lethal injection Tuesday after being found guilty of killing a former girlfriend in 2003. What the main stream media isn't telling us:  McLaughlin was a man when he murdered his girlfriend.

➤SUSPECT IN TIME SQUARE MACHETE ATTACK ON NEW YEAR'S EVE ARRESTED AND FACES ATTEMPTED MURDER CHARGES: The 19-year-old suspect accused of attacking New York police officers with a machete near Times Square on New Year’s Eve has been arrested and faces charges of attempted murder of a police officer. Police are recommending the suspect, Trevor Bickford, be charged with two counts of attempted murder of a police officer and two counts of attempted assault in the attack. The Manhattan District Attorney’s office has said that they do not yet have details of when Bickford will be arraigned. It’s unclear whether he has an attorney.

➤PENNSYLVANIA POLICE CHIEF KILLED IN SHOOING, SUSPECTED GUNMAN SHOT DEAD IN SHOOTOUT HOURS LATER: Pennsylvania Police Chief, Justin McIntire, was shot and killed Monday and the suspected gunman, Aaron Lamont Swan, was shot and killed in a shootout with police. Another police officer was shot in the leg and hospitalized in stable condition. Law enforcement had been looking for Swan since Sunday night after he was wanted for probation violations involving weapons.

➤HARRY WHINES 'IT'S UNFAIR': Prince Harry will claim in his tell-all memoir how unfair it was that he was always forced to play 'second fiddle' to his older brother and heir to the British throne Prince William. The relationship between the Prince of Wales and his estranged brother is 'hanging by a thread' ahead of the publication of Harry's tell-all memoir, sources have said. Insiders fear the strained relationship between the brothers is likely to be further damaged by attacks on Prince William and his wife Kate in the controversial book, due out next week. The memoir is said to be 'tough on William' and include a description of a fight between the brothers, as well as 'a broadside' against Kate. The Duke of Sussex has also reportedly been warned that tarnishing the reputation of Camilla, Queen Consort is a 'red line' for his father King Charles.

🎾FORMER TENNIS STAR BATTLE DOUBLE-DOSE OF CANCER: Martina Navratilova, 66, who won Wimbledon a record nine times, said she has been diagnosed with throat and breast cancer after discovering a swollen lymph node in her neck in November. 'This double whammy is serious but still fixable,' the Czech-born American said. 'I'm hoping for a favorable outcome. It's going to stink for a while but I'll fight with all I have got.' The former world number one's diagnosis comes after Navratilova was given the all-clear from breast cancer in 2010 after she received radiation treatment.

➤HYDRATION CAN SIGNIFICANTLY IMPACT YOUR PHYSICAL HEALTH, STUDY FINDS: According to a National Institutes of Health study published Monday in the journal eBioMedicine, drinking enough water is associated with a significantly lower risk of developing chronic diseases, a lower risk of dying early or lower risk of being biologically older than your chronological age.

➤FROM INCREASES IN MINIMUM WAGE TO RECREATIONAL MARIJUANA, THESE NEW LAWS TAKE EFFECT IN 2023: With a new year comes a host of new laws and regulations in states and cities across the country. Nearly half of all US states will increase their minimum wages in 2023, voters in Maryland and Missouri approved recreational marijuana for those 21 and older and the price of insulin for Medicare beneficiaries will be capped at $35 starting January 1st.

➤COMET TO MAKE FIRST AND LIKELY ONLY APPEARANCE IN RECORDED HISTORY: A comet discovered less than a year ago has traveled billions of miles from its believed origins at the edge of our solar system and will be visible in just a few weeks during what will likely be its only recorded appearance. The comet, C/2022 E3 (ZTF), was first seen in March 2022 as it made its way through Jupiter's orbit. Jessica Lee, an astronomer with the Royal Observatory Greenwich said they don't have an estimate for the furthest it will get from the Earth yet, estimates var, but if it does return it won't be for at least 50,000 years.

🏈TITANS TO START QB JOSHUA DOBBS VS JAGUARS: Coach Mike Vrabel announced on Monday that Joshua Dobbs will be Titans' starting quarterback in Saturday's clash with the Jaguars for the AFC South division title. Dobbs, a six-year veteran, signed with the Titans less than two weeks ago and made his first NFL start last Thursday night against the Cowboys.

🏈NFL SETS LIONS VS PACKERS GAME IN THE SUNDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL SLOT FOR WEEK 18: The league announced on Monday the Packers-Lions game at Lambeau Field will be the final game of the regular season on Sunday night at 8:20 ET. Both the Packers and Lions are 8-8, but the Packers don't need any help to clinch the NFL's final wild-card spot if they win. However, Detroit needs the Seattle Seahawks to lose to the Los Angeles Rams.

🏀CELTICS' JOE MAZZULLA RETURNS TO BENCH AFTER EYE INJURY: Boston Celtics interim coach Joe Mazzulla returned to the Boston Celtics bench after missing two games due to an eye injury. Mazzulla was diagnosed with corneal abrasions in both eyes, the injury happened during a pickup game. Damon Stoudamire went 2-0 in the games he covered for Mazzulla as head coach.
