Wake-Up Call: Trump Eyes '24 Campaign Manager


Former president Donald Trump and his team are eyeing a longtime Virginia operative to take on a senior role in his next presidential campaign, which could be announced shortly after the midterms, according to four people familiar with the matter. No decisions have been made on the exact role that Chris LaCivita would take in Trump’s campaign, though discussions have included a possible role as campaign manager or senior adviser. LaCivita is a longtime Republican political consultant who helped lead the Swift Vets and POWs for Truth campaign against Democratic presidential candidate John F. Kerry in 2004 and who is now directing a super PAC tied to Trump.


➤CHRISTMAS PARADE KILLER FOUND GUILTY: The man who drove an SUV into a Christmas parade crowd in Waukesha, Wisconsin, last year has been found guilty of intentional homicide. He killed six people and wounded dozens more when he barreled into the parade last November. Darrell Brooks opted to represent himself in the trial and was repeatedly removed for making outbursts in court. He faces a mandatory sentence of life in prison.


➤ARIZONA VOTERS FACE INTIMIDATION, SUIT ALLEGES: The League of Women Voters has filed a lawsuit alleging that two groups tied to the Oath Keepers are carrying out a campaign of voter intimidation at ballot drop boxes in Maricopa County, Arizona. The groups are accused of recruiting volunteers, some of them masked and armed, to stake out the ballot boxes and take videos of voters lawfully casting their votes.

➤ANOTHER WOMAN CLAIMS HERSHEL WALKER GOT HER PREGNANT: A second woman has come forward to accuse Georgia Republican U.S. Senate candidate Herschel Walker of pressuring her to get an abortion after she became pregnant with his child. The former football star has denied both allegations. “I didn’t kill JFK either,” he said yesterday at a campaign event. “The Democrats are doing whatever they can to win this seat.”

➤RUSSIA STEPS UP UKRAINIAN RHETORIC: Russia is cranking up its rhetoric regarding its assault on Ukraine. In a letter to the United Nations, the government alleged that Ukraine is preparing to use a nuclear “dirty bomb” on its own territory. There are fears that Russia will drop such a bomb and try to blame it on Ukraine. Meanwhile, a member of Russia’s security council has called for the “de-Satanization” of Ukraine, claiming that it is home to hundreds of satanic sects and radical groups.


🛢SAUDI ARABIA WARNS THE WEST ABOUT OIL RESERVES: Saudi Arabia's energy minister on Tuesday blasted the release of emergency oil stocks as an attempt to "manipulate markets", the latest apparent salvo in a spat with Washington over oil production.  "People are depleting their emergency stocks, had depleted it, used it as a mechanism to manipulate markets while its profound purpose was to mitigate shortage of supply," Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman told an investor conference in the Saudi capital. "However, it is my profound duty to make it clear to the world that losing emergency stock may become painful in the months to come."

Prince Abdulaziz did not single out the United States in his comments about emergency stocks, but last week US President Joe Biden announced he was putting the final 15 million barrels on the market from a record release of US strategic reserves.

➤MASSIVE DEMONSTRATIONS IN IRAN: Thousands of protesters continued to defy Iran’s security forces with a massive demonstration marking the death in custody 40 days ago of a young woman who was arrested for refusing to wear a headscarf. Women have been in the forefront of the revolt against Iran’s hardline Islamic Republic government.


➤GREENHOUSE GASES AT RECORD LEVELS: The amount of greenhouse gases in the Earth’s atmosphere hit record levels in 2022, according to a new report from the World Meteorological Organization. The three main greenhouse gases, carbon dioxide, methane, and nitrous oxide, all reached record-high levels. Burning fossil fuels releases greenhouse gases, which become trapped in Earth’s atmosphere and cause temperatures to rise. 
  • On a happier note, NASA says that the hole in the Earth’s ozone level is continuing to shrink. It’s still 8.9 square miles in size but has been shrinking for decades. The hole was caused by the use of human-made chemicals including some aerosols, which have been reduced in accordance with an international treaty signed in the 1980s.
➤LOUDMOUTH RIOTER GETS 4 YEARS: A Tennessee man who describes himself as a “loudmouth” has been sentenced to four years in prison for participating in the January 6th assault on the U.S. Capitol. Much of the evidence against Matthew Bledsoe came from his own social media posts. He recorded himself entering the Capitol through a broken window. 
  • In a Delaware court, Hunter Keefried was sentenced to two years in prison for his role in the event. He was photographed entering the Capitol through a broken window along with his father, who was carrying a Confederate flag.
  • However, a Maryland man who smashed in two of the Capitol’s windows with a flagpole was sentenced to home confinement rather than prison time. His family and defense attorney argued that he suffers from autism and would be devastated by prison time.
  • So far, about 900 people have been charged with federal crimes related to the events of January 6th. More than 420 have pleaded guilty, mostly to misdemeanors.

➤APPLE WILL HAVE TO USE THE SAME CHARGER AS EVERYONE ELSE:  Will we all be able to use the same phone charger soon? Apple has announced that they will begin making iPhones with a USB-C port due to new regulations in the European Union. Earlier this month, European Parliament approved a new law requiring USB-C chargers for most portable devices by late 2024.  Some senators are calling for similar rules here in the United States. Supporters of the law usually cite electric waste as a factor. Opponents argue that such a rule may limit innovation. The new iPhone 15, which comes out next year, will likely have a USB-C port instead of the Lightning cable.


➤CHECK THE BOTTLE OF PINE-SOL: The Clorox company has recalled about 37 million bottles of a variety of Pine-Sol cleaning products because they may contain potentially harmful bacteria. The bacteria can pose a serious health risk to people with compromised immune systems and people with external medical devices. 🏈BEARS’ QUINN GOING TO PHILLY: The Philadelphia Eagles have made a trade with the Chicago Bears for pass rusher Robert Quinn. The Bears are getting a fourth-round pick in return. There is speculation that the Eagles could make offers for several more Bears players before the November 1st trading deadline.

⚾PHILLIES FANS ARE REALLY PSYCHED: World Series ticket prices for Philadelphia Phillies home games against the Houston Astros have hit an average of $3,200 on StubHub, according to the Delaware News Journal. The games in Houston are a relative bargain at $1,500. Phillies fans also are showing their love by buying Fanatics merchandise. Merchandise sales set a 24-hour record after Sunday night’s win. The first game starts at 5:03 p.m. Friday in Houston.


🏈MIAMI DOLPHINS’ BRANDON JONES OUT FOR THE SEASON: Bad news for the Miami Dolphins. Safety Brandon Jones will miss the rest of the season due to a knee injury. Jones led the team this season with 49 tackles, including two sacks.

🏈BRONCO’S RUSSELL WILSON IS READY TO ROLL: Denver Broncos quarterback Russell Wilson says he’s “ready to roll” for Sunday’s game against the Jacksonville Jaguars in London. Wilson missed last weekend’s game against the New York Jets because of a hamstring injury.

⚾CARDINALS’ WAINWRIGHT RETURNS FOR 18TH SEASON: St. Louis Cardinals pitcher Adam Wainwright will return for an 18th season, ESPN reports. Now 41, Wainwright’s long-time teammates Albert Pujols and Yadier Molina opted for retirement.

🏒STANDING ‘O’ FOR GOLDEN KNIGHTS’ KESSEL: The Golden Knights’ veteran forward Phil Kessel played his 990th consecutive game this week, breaking a tie with Keith Yandle for the longest streak in NHL history. Incidentally, he scored the 400th goal of his career during the game against the San Jose Sharks. The crowd gave a standing ovation to Kessel, who was 19 when he made his debut with the Boston Bruins in 2006.
