Netflix CEO Predicts End of Linear TV

Netflix co-CEO Reed Hastings believes that linear TV could end within the next decade, saying on the streaming giant's second-quarter earnings call earlier this week, "Streaming is working everywhere. Everyone is pouring in. It's definitely the end of linear TV over the next five, 10 years," according to Fox Business.

Linear TV is the traditional way of watching TV in which you view a TV show on the channel it's aired on at its scheduled time.

Hastings' prediction comes after Netflix lost 970,000 subscribers in the second quarter, after having lost 200,00 in the first quarter, its first decline in over a decade. Still, that was less than half the two million Netflix had thought it would lose in the second quarter, and despite the subscriber losses, Netflix said it drew more TV viewing time than any other outlet during the 2021-2022 TV season, nearly matching the combined total of CBS and NBC, the two most watched broadcast networks.
