The fast-spreading omicron variant of COVID-19 has lead to Fox cancelling their New Year's Eve Toast & Roast 2022 this year.
Comedians and former Community co-stars Joel McHale hosted last year's telecast (replacing Steve Harvey who hosted a previous special) and they were slated to host again this year as well from New York City's Times Square.
Fox released a statement where they indicated they were 'confident' in their safety protocols, though omicron just proved to be too much to handle.
'While we are confident in the health and safety protocols for Fox's New Year's Eve Toast & Roast 2022, the recent velocity of the spread of Omicron cases has made it impossible to produce a live special in Times Square that meets our standards,' a statement from Fox began. We will not be moving forward with Fox's New Year's Eve Toast & Roast 2022 in New York,' the statement continued.
Just hours before canceling the show, though, Fox released a new promo for the special, featuring both McHale and Jeong.
The video billed the special as, 'an event two pandemic years in the making,' which also revealed the 'iHeartRadio performances' from Imagine Dragons, Maroon 5, Billy Idol and Pink, with Trace Adkins set to perform live.
Fox hasn't revealed what they will replace the live special with, but said they will announce alternative programming soon.
