AT&T and Discovery's deal to combine WarnerMedia with Discovery's programming is likely a "real blow" to media conglomerates Comcast's NBCUniversal and ViacomCBS, according to Lightshed Partners analyst Rich Greenfield.
"If I'm sitting at Comcast NBC or I'm sitting at Viacom today this was a real blow," Greenfield said in an interview on CNBC. "This was a major chess piece that's getting sort of scaled up away from you."
The AT&T/Discovery deal comes as there has been speculation over the past six months about a potential combination between NBCUniversal and AT&T's WarnerMedia.
“I just cant believe that Brian Roberts (Comcast CEO) is allowing this to happen and isn’t trying to stop this and buy WarnerMedia now," Greenfield said.
