NYC Radio: Sports Radio WFAN Celebrates 33rd Anniversary

Entercom, the unrivaled leader in sports radio, will celebrate WFAN 101.9 FM / 660 AM’s 33rd anniversary with a weekend of special programming from July 3 through 5, featuring iconic current and former hosts including Howie Rose, Steve Somers, Suzyn Waldman and more. The most listened to sports station in the country, New York’s flagship sports station and the radio home of the New York Yankees will commemorate its first broadcast on July 1, 1987 with surprise guests as well as with “Best Of” shows from previous years.

Al Dukes and Jerry Recco will kick off the anniversary celebration on Friday, July 3, taking over morning drive from 5:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. ET with their first-ever extended “Warm-Up Show” prior to the station’s regular weekday schedule.

Longtime WFAN host Richard Neer, who has been with the station since 1988, will start the weekend programming at 6:00 a.m. ET on Saturday, July 4 at. The schedule will also feature the “Best of Boomer and Carton,” the “Best of Mike and the Mad Dog,” Howie Rose, original WFAN evening host and current New York Mets broadcaster on sister station WCBS-880 (WCBS-AM), station legend Steve Somers, and Bob Papa and Carl Banks, WFAN radio broadcast team for New York Giants football games, among others.

  • 10:00 a.m. – 12:00:  Joe Benigno and Evan Roberts, current afternoon show co-hosts
  • 12:00 p.m. – 1:00:  Howie Rose, original WFAN evening host and current New York Mets broadcaster on sister station WCBS-880 (WCBS-AM)
  • 1:00 p.m. – 3:00:  Bob Papa and Carl Banks, WFAN radio broadcast team for New York Giants football games
  • 3:00 p.m. – 7:00:  Ed Coleman and Dave Sims, former WFAN midday show co-hosts
  • 7:00 p.m. – 11:00:  Sweeny Murti, WFAN Yankees beat reporter, postgame show host and part-time station host
  • 11:00 p.m. – 2:00:  Jody McDonald, original WFAN host, current weekend host

  • 9:00 a.m. – 1:00:  “Sunday Baseball Show” with Suzyn Waldman, longtime WFAN personality and the first-ever voice heard on WFAN; current WFAN Yankees Radio Network announcer
  • 1:00 p.m. – 2:00:  Steve Somers, original WFAN host, current overnight host and only host who has remained full-time since station launch; and Russ Salzberg
  • 2:00 p.m. – 3:00:  Steve Somers and Tony Paige, former WFAN overnight host (2003-2019)
  • 3:00 p.m. – 6:00:  Ed Coleman and Dave Sims
  • 6:00 p.m. – 7:00:  “Best of Mike and the Mad Dog,” WFAN’s legendary afternoon team for nearly two decades (1989-2008)
  • 7:00 p.m. – 8:00:  “Best of Boomer and Carton,” former WFAN morning show (2007-2017)
  • 8:00 p.m. – 9:00:  “Best of Boomer and Gio,” current WFAN morning show
  • 9:00 p.m. – 11:00:  Sweeny Murti
  • 11:00 p.m. – 3:00:  Jody McDonald
