Houston Radio: Stations Raise $300K For Food Bank

Last weekend, 25 Houston radio stations banded to together to support the Houston Food Bank through a three-day on-air fundraiser. In total, the campaign raised $299,804 to feed those affected by Hurricane Harvey in response to live and recorded promotional announcements asking for monetary donations.

Participating stations are owned by CBS Radio, Cox Media, Cumulus Media, iHeartMedia, One Radio and Univision.

“Radio’s strength is rooted in its connection to the community, and Houstonians rely on radio to inform, protect and nourish their spirits. Now, Houston radio stations come together to literally nourish those harmed by Hurricane Harvey. So starts Houston’s recovery, with the power of its people — and radio —behind it,” Texas Association of Broadcasters President Oscar Rodriguez said in an announcement.

According to radiomagonline.com, collectively, Houston radio stations annually donate over $15 million dollars in cash and airtime through fundraisers and promoting nonprofit events.
