Disney Contributes $1M To OneOrlandoFund

The newly created OneOrlando Fund to serve victims from the Pulse nightclub shootings went online Tuesday as the Walt Disney Co. pledged a $1 million donation to the campaign, according to The Orlando Sentinel.

PD Chief John Mina, Mayor Dyer
Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer said the money would go to nonprofit organizations serving victims and their families, Hispanic, LGBTQ and faith groups and "underlying causes of this tragic event" — though it was not immediately clear what that might involve.

"The purpose of the Fund is to provide a way to help respond to the needs of our community, now and in the time to come," Dyer said.

He announced the creation of the fund at Monday night’s vigil at the Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts. Besides Disney’s $1 million corporate donation and a pledge to match employee contributions dollar for dollar, it has drawn a $500,000 donation from Darden Restaurants; $400,000 from  DeVos family, owners of the Orlando Magic; $100,000 donations each from the Magic, Orlando City Soccer Club and air carrier JetBlue; and $50,000 from Mears Transportation.

But money from the fund will not go directly to victims or their families, officials said. Instead, it will be distributed through the Central Florida Foundation, a 22-year-old organization that serves as home for more than 400 charitable funds. The Central Florida Foundation also manages the Homeless Impact Fund.
