PA Radio: Southern Belle Media Flips WFYY, WVSL

Southern Bell Media today greatly expands the footprint of it's Big Foot Country brand by flipping Top40 WFYY 106.5.

Coinciding with the move, Southern Belle Sunday dropped ESPN sports on its WVSL 92.3 FM in favor of Classic Hits branding as Hanna 92.3 FM Let Your Music Flow. Hanna is an apparent nod to the Susquehanna River which flows through the region.

Most of airstaff from Top40 WFYY will move down the hall to man Hanna 92.3, including longtime morning host Tom Morgan.

Southern Belle, a division of Seven Mountains Radio, closed on the Max Media stations late last year. The deal was reported be worth $3.8M. Max Media had purchased the stations in 2003 for $7.5M.

The WFYY version of Big Foot Country will also air on it other stations in the region: WWBE 98.3 FM in Mifflinburg, WYGL 100.5 FM in Elizabeth, PA. The simulcast means Big Foot country can be heard from Wilkes-Barre south to the Harrisburg PA area.

It's expected that Southern Belle will file for new call letters for 106.5 FM. The change today ends 50+ years of contemporary music (AC, Hot AC and/or Top40 during various years) airing on 106.5 FM which licenses to Bloomsburg, PA through four different owners.
