Online Listening Surges In October

Triton Digital Tuesday released its monthly Ranker for October 2015, providing insight into the month’s top streaming audio providers, as well as listening trends.

Key findings from the October 2015 Ranker include:
  • All measured clients in October 2015 is at an all-time high with 4,406,524 Average Active Sessions (AAS) within the Domestic U.S. during the Monday-Friday 6:00AM-8:00PM (M-F 6A-8P) daypart, and 3,647,930 AAS during the Monday-Sunday 6:00AM-Midnight (M-Su 6A-Mid) daypart.
  • The News/Talk format showed the largest listening gain with a 21.5 percent increase in AAS, followed by Sports (14.3 percent), Adult Contemporary (8.4 percent), Urban Adult Contemporary (8.4 percent), Hot AC (7.3 percent), Classic Hits (6.7 percent) and Classic Rock (6.6 percent) (M-F 6A-8P, October 2015 vs. September 2015). Political debates contributed to the growth of News/Talk in October, while the MLB playoffs and the start of the NHL season contributed to Sports gain.
  • Looking at the top 20 markets, Boston showed the largest listening gain with a 30.4 percent increase in AAS, followed by Sacramento (20.5 percent), Milwaukee (20.2 percent), San Francisco (19.7 percent) and Seattle (18.8 percent).
  • 37 percent of listening took place on an iOS device, followed by Android at 31 percent, and Google Chrome and Flash at 9 percent each. (M-F 6A-8P)
