The Country Music Association is gearing up for its 49th annual CMA Awards on Nov. 4, but the organization took time to give back on Tuesday. With the help of Kix Brooks and Lady Antebellum’s Hillary Scott, the CMA donated $3 million to Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt in a ceremony on the hospital’s second floor stage.
The Tenneassean reports the money will be used to help pay for the children’s hospital four-floor expansion that will add 160,000 square feet to the complex. Approximately 80 beds will be added when the first two floors are complete. The initial addition will focus on critically ill or injured children, including premature infants, neurosurgery, organ transplant and other critical care patients.
"Country music is a format known for telling stories,” said Brooks in a statement. The radio personality and Brooks & Dunn singer serves on boards for both CMA and Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital.
“Now the Country Music community will be known for building them. Building floors means helping more children and families -- locally, regionally, and around the world -- and I can't imagine anyone with a heart not embracing what is going on at the Monroe Carell Jr. Children's Hospital at Vanderbilt.”
