He said that he will soon begin a drug regimen to keep the cancer in remission. Brokaw, 74, revealed in February that he had been diagnosed with multiple myeloma, a cancer that attacks bone marrow.
Brokaw, who remains an NBC News special correspondent, was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom in November. Last week, he took part in the sing-along finale of "The Colbert Report."
In the note to staff, he wrote about serving as a presidential delegate earlier this month to a commemoration of the 70th anniversary of the Battle of the Bulge during World War II. Brokaw is credited with coining the term "The Greatest Generation."
