R.I.P.: KKDA, KRNB D/FW OM Michael Erickson

Michael Erickson
The radio and DJ communities in San Francisco and Dallas, TX are in mourning the death this week of Michael Erickson, who reportedly lost his three year battle with lung cancer.

According to nbcbayarea.com, Erickson's aspirations for life in the music business began in high school, when he fronted a nine-piece funk band.

His first job in local radio was as a DJ working the graveyard shift at now-defunct soul station KSOL 98.9 FM, and it was there where he started mixing records over the airwaves. He later joined fellow mixer Cameron Paul in moving to the then-nascent station KMEL 106.1 FM, where he showed listeners how he could "fix it in the mix" and eventually became assistant program director.

In more recent years, Erickson had served as program director at KISQ 98.1 FM and KKSF 910 AM and operations manager at Clear Channel in San Francisco.

He then relocated to the Dallas/Forth Worth area, where he worked as a program director for KRNB 105.7 FM in Decatur, TX and director of operations for Service Broadcasting Corporation and KKDA 104.5 FM K104. DeDe in the Morning remembers their best boss ever:
