Radio Pay In Canada Trending Downward

Airchecker Canada has provided an interesting look at the average pay of radio talent in selected Canadian markets:
  • Toronto’s average AM salary was $60,506, down from the 2009 average of $71,288. The average FM salary was $85,130 down from $94,640 in 2007.
  • Vancouver’s average AM salary was $58,244 up from the 2009 average of $54,755. The average FM salary was $86,714 down from the 2008 average of $88,563.
  • Calgary’s average AM salary was 78,045 up from $74,023 in 2010. The average FM salary was $90,908 up from $82,736 in 2010.
  • Edmonton’s average AM salary was $74,5778 compared to $76,9607 in 2008. The average FM salary was $78,208 or about the same since 2008. But in 2007 the average FM salary was $68,537.

In small Ontario markets the average AM salary was $44,959 down slightly from 2010 but higher than the $42,725 average in 2009. The average FM salary was $53,025 which was up from the 2010 average of $51,824.  The average radio salaries (AM & FM) in small markets across Canada:
  • Newfoundland & Labrador $52,503 down from $53,680 in 2010
  • Nova Scotia $41,347 up from $40,688 in 2010 but down from $42,065 in 2009.
  • Halifax $55,693 down from $57,705 in 2009.
  • New Brunswick $40,477 up from $39,628 in 2010 but down from $42,445 in 2008
  • Manitoba $36,980 down from $42,006 in 2008
  • Saskatchewan $56,952 up from $55,174 in 2010 but down from $58,188 in 2009.
  • Alberta $47,857 down from $54,593 in 2010.
  • British Columbia and Territories $52,705 up from $50,745 in 2010
